When choosing hydraulic pullers, there are different features you need to consider.
Hydraulic or Mechanical?
With a hydraulic puller, the spring loader plunger provides a non twisting application of thrust, making it more effective and secure. With a mechanical puller, you rotate a crossbar, which moves the centre bolt towards the shaft. They are more suitable for extracting bearings and rings that fit flush with other parts.
How many jaws do you require?
The most common pullers come with either 2 or 3 jaws. If space is limited 2 jaws can be used, but if space isn’t an issue, a 3 jawed puller distributes force more evenly and is safer and easier to use.
Reach
The available distance between the pulling surface of the jaw, and the jaw head of the puller.
Spread
The diameter the jaws extend to.
Tonnage
The tonnage required.
